Weight definitely falls under this category, and it’s one of the most popular new year resolutions of all time. Weight loss, weight gain, muscle building and toning are all extremely common new year resolutions. This year, this is not about starting a diet or starting an intense workout plan – however if that works for you, go ahead. 

This is the year that we should aim to work out to feel good, instead of being obsessed with how we look. How you looked as a young teenager shouldn’t be the same as how you look now, so don’t reminisce about how you were 10kg lighter years ago. Allow the numbers on the scale to affect you less.

Instead, focus on how amazing you feel after you start being more active. You’re actively building your stamina, focusing on your core strength and overall boosting both your physical and mental health. Having three meals a day is okay – even four, if you want!

Success And Image

In this day and age, social media has an irreversible death grip on the minds of its users. People are so obsessed with how they portray themselves, that they’ve constantly built up false images or difficult expectations for themselves. Like the popular saying goes – not everything you see on social media is real!

If you’re looking for success this year, focus on yourself. Instead of using social media to stalk competitors, envy influencers or wish for a millionaire’s lifestyle, use it to grow your business or working relationships. Use social media to learn fun skills, such as cooking, dancing or even crocheting. 

Another pro tip – cut the gossip. When you gossip about others, you’re building up a stagnant wall of insecurity for yourself. Spread positivity and it will eventually come back to you!

Personal Wellness

Besides working out, there are other ways you can work on your personal wellness and mental health in 2023.

It’s a challenge to find the perfect work-life balance, and many people are focused on finding hobbies, places to go to or new things to learn, to the point where they don’t realise that these activities are also burning them out.

Have you ever felt like you’ve lost interest in something you used to enjoy? That’s the first sign that you may be suffering from burnout. Sometimes work-life balance is about getting enough rest and relaxation, and not about how many activities you can squeeze into your weekend. It doesn’t matter if you want to blaze through an entire drama on Netflix in a single day, but your eyes can barely open.

Find ways to make yourself happy and content. Treat yourself either with a snack, or even an extra two hours of sleep. It’s all about how you can find that right balance for yourself.

Financial Responsibility

For our fellow Asians, we’ve always been all about that money-oriented mindset. However while setting money-oriented goals, remember to make them holistic! Your financial goals should include budgeting, goal setting, savings and investment plans. And most importantly, it must follow a disciplined approach. 

If you’re in your early 20s and worried about future finances, it’s time to take a step back. Contrary to popular belief, life doesn’t truly begin until your late 20s. Your early years are meant to be a time of discovery and learning, so that you can ascend into adulthood successfully.

Cut down on using buy-now-pay-later services, unless you intend to build credit score. If you have remaining bills, it’s a good idea to pay them off immediately after you receive your salary. It’s a good feeling to know you’ve paid off any remaining debts, while still having money in the bank!
